Cairns Apples

It’s late summer and the “Cairns” family are picking apples in the orchard. Mrs. James, the seamstress in the neighbouring house, has a new client arriving – perhaps she is having a dress made. A horse drawn cart is clattering down the bumpy roadway. Those apples will be sold soon.

Christmas Eve

The snow muffles the sounds of the evening. A blanket of fresh silence and pristine white has fallen. Families are out to greet their neighbours and revel in the new winter world. Several horse drawn sleighs swoosh by on the roadway. Children, keen to enjoy the new snow have already built a couple of snowmen at the house with the yellow barn. A full moon hangs in the night sky. Tomorrow promises to be a bright and sunny day!

Sugaring Off

It’s early spring and the Maple trees have been tapped and the sap collected. The sugarmakers are now busy boiling off the excess water to produce the sweet Maple syrup. The smell of the fire in the sugar-shack lingers in the valley. At the house in the distance a group of children are tobogganing.
