Cairns Apples

It’s late summer and the “Cairns” family are picking apples in the orchard. Mrs. James, the seamstress in the neighbouring house, has a new client arriving – perhaps she is having a dress made. A horse drawn cart is clattering down the bumpy roadway. Those apples will be sold soon.

The snow muffles the sounds of the evening. A blanket of fresh silence and pristine white has fallen. Families are out to greet their neighbours and revel in the new winter world. Several horse drawn sleighs swoosh by on the roadway. Children, keen to enjoy the new snow have already built a couple of snowmen at the house with the yellow barn. A full moon hangs in the night sky. Tomorrow promises to be a bright and sunny day!

It’s cold outside, but oh so warm inside! The Christmas wreath is hung on the front door. Soon neighbours and friends will visit. The children are excited for the holidays as they work on several amazing snowmen in the front yard. It might be Christmas, but the farm chores never end as father heads to the barn to milk the cows.
