A Passion for Folk Art
I grew up north of Toronto. In the forties and fifties this was a rural area with many small farms. The sights, smells and sounds at that time instilled in me a love of rural life slowly disappearing. As a child, I attended a one room schoolhouse with an outhouse.
As a young wife, I painted folk art to decorate our home, a Kingston, Ontario mill, built in 1836. Often paintings were hung low so the children and their friends could enjoy them.
As an antique dealer people came and went regularly, paintings began to go with them – suddenly my work became popular.
Finally moving west in 1979, many years in Vancouver and more on Salt Spring, we now live on Vancouver Island in the town of Sidney and I’m taking more time to paint.
My art is a nostalgic memory of my youth in rural Ontario. I have sold in galleries in Kingston and Vancouver.
